More About Bryan Hathaway

Since 2007, I have been working with Rogue Valley residents to restore pleasure in their lives. Early on, I began working with children, families, and adults. I provided counseling services for four years at Family Solutions in Grants Pass, working with parents or foster parents of children with often strong behavioral challenges. The experience was invaluable and has helped inform my work as a counselor.

I integrate traditional and more modernized psychotherapy models to individualize counseling to fit your needs and help facilitate personal growth of the whole self (mind, body, spirit):

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Traumatic experience can be trapped in the body that you may have blocked and may be unaware it was not resolved. This body-oriented approach can help remedy the disconnect between mind and body, bring to light unconscious issues and let you heal without having to relive the traumatic events.

Internal Family Systems Model (IFS):  Is an integrative approach to individual psychotherapy. It understands that the mind is made up of relatively discrete subpersonalities each with its own viewpoint and emotional qualities and sometimes conflicts in need of resolutions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Your thoughts, beliefs and feelings can directly affect the way you behave in certain situations. CBT can be an effective approach when certain events cause you pain, anxiety, stress or panic. This kind of therapy can change the way you think and improve how you feel and act—even when the situation itself stays the same.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: This form of therapy can help you identify your strengths and build on them in order to gain a stronger sense of yourself and your ability to solve problems. At the same time, you’ll discover the thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that are currently creating difficulties in your life.

Motivational Interviewing: In order to make positive changes in your life, you have to want to change. Motivational interviewing can be effective for those with self-destructive behaviors they don’t care to change. As your therapist, I provide the autonomy and freedom of choice you need to discuss those behaviors and view them more objectively. This is the first step in the process of change.

Expressive Arts/Play Therapy Practices: Art and creativity facilitate healing in children, teens and adults by helping you express feelings without talking. We may use drawing, painting, movement, journaling or music to connect you to unconscious issues that are blocking your healing process. With this approach, you can develop healing techniques that support your individuality and self-esteem.
